The White-Spectacled Bulbul , also known as the Yellow-vented Bulbul, is a member of the Pycnonotidae family of the Passeriformes order.

There are around 130 species of Bulbuls throughout the Africa and Asia regions who are predominantly forest dwellers. The White-Spectacled Bulbul is most closely related to the Common Bulbul of Northern Africa and the White-cheeked Bulbul of the Arabian Peninsula and Iran region.

The White-Spectacled Bulbul is very common all over Palestine in all habitats, including the desert, and is easily identified by its sooty black head, white eye-ring and yellow vent under the tail. It is a thrush-sized bird whose name is derived from Arabic, Bulbul meaning a chaterer, probably due to its vocal abilities.

White-Spectacled Bulbuls are loud, boisterous and playful and almost always seen in groups in gardens, parks, scrub lands and date plantations.

The White-Spectacled Bulbul is a resident species in an area that stretches from southern Saudi Arabia to Sinai and all the way across to the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. It is most abundant in the Palestine and Lebanon region.

His ability to live beside humans enables him to thrive and his conservation status is Least Concern. This lively bird may breed a number of times in one year. They build a small nest of twigs, grass, leaves and moss which is sometimes lined with hair. The nest is situated in a bush or small tree where the female will lay 2-4 eggs, speckled brown and grey.

Our Bulbul is active all day long, eating, playing and gardening! His diet is varied between eating insects (often those which harm trees), fruits, seeds, flowers, nectar and leaves. Your typical Bulbul will weigh between 30-40 grams and is around 20 centimeters long.
