Mahmiyat.ps celebrates the Palestinian forest rangers on International Forest Rangers Day, which is on July 31st each year, to emphasize the importance of rangers and reserve guards.

Mahmiyat.ps said that the forest guards in Palestine are called ‘rangers’ in the woodlands and natural areas, and they have an important role in protecting the areas. The guards are involved in practical protection to preserve wild areas as well as historical, cultural, natural and environmental sites. Protecting these natural locations creates recreational opportunities for the sites. It also links the sites with local communities, protected areas and their management.

Mahmiyat.ps added that the Palestinian citizen is the guard, and the first line of defense, to preserve Palestinian wildlife and biodiversity. It is the local community individuals who must protect these wild and natural areas and forests. This comes through realizing the importance of these places, and by reporting hunting activities and unlawful cutting of trees, in addition to notifying authorities about fires in natural areas.

Mahmiyat.ps highlighted the role of rangers in natural sites. The rangers protect the reserves from various violations. They are the guards who are preserving, improving, developing and protecting the forest wealth, and promoting the culture of belonging to the land and nature with the local community. In the hot weather months, the rangers have an additional challenge, which is extinguishing fires that occur and are potentially disastrous in the sites.

Mahmiyat.ps called for increasing the number of rangers in each area, and fortifying  the teams in forests, natural sites and reserves. The rangers are a defense force, and they preserve the components of Palestinian biodiversity. Organizers of trails, natural sites and reserves should communicate with the rangers before using them. This is for the safety of the participants, for the health of the environment, and to prevent negative impact on the natural reserves.

The site indicated that updating its new website will contribute to the enhancement of the topics of environmental awareness. It also highlighted the importance of sites, natural reserves, and forests, and implementing awareness activities for all different segments of society. In addition, there is an ongoing attempt to strengthen citizens’ relationships with nature by experiencing it firsthand and teaching how to protect it.
